Four Roses honored among ‘Best Whiskies in the World’

Four Roses Yellow Label named best bourbon under 7 years of age

LAWRENCEBURG, Ky. (June 18, 2010) – Four Roses Distillery again was named among the top spirits at the annual World Whiskies Awards, but this time it was Four Roses Yellow Label taking the honors.

Four Roses Yellow Label, the distillery’s base product, was named “Best American Whiskey: Bourbon Seven Years and Under.” The awards are featured in Whisky magazine’s July issue, which is distributed globally.

“I’ve always said Four Roses Yellow Label may be a wonderful mixing bourbon but it’s definitely good enough to drink on-the-rocks or neat - as I prefer,” said Jim Rutledge, Four Roses Master Distiller. “This international award confirms that you don’t have to pay premium price to have a premium drink.”

Four Roses Yellow Label brought home the award following a three-round blind tasting competition, chaired by international whisky expert, Dave Broom, and including 17 other judges from Europe, Japan, Canada and the United States.

While Four Roses’ higher-age and higher-proof bourbon offerings – Single Barrel and Small Batch – have been chosen as World Whiskies Award winners in the past, this year was the first for Four Roses Yellow to be recognized.

Four Roses is the only bourbon distillery that combines five proprietary yeast strains with two separate mashbills to produce 10 distinct bourbon recipes. Different amounts of each of those recipes are used to create Four Roses Yellow Label, allowing the distillery to hit a consistent flavor profile. Four Roses Yellow Label is an 80-proof bourbon with floral aromas and hints of pear, apple, honey, vanilla and spice.
